Almost immediately after Mack left her room and disappeared from sight, Nathan's dark form materialized from the darkness in the corner at one end of the hallway. His pale complexion was accentuated by the moonlight pouring through the windows, and his golden eyes glinted with it as he watched her go, listening to the sound of her footsteps fade. Once he coud no longer hear them, he smoothly walked forward and silently slipped into her room, glancing around. He noticed her sleeping roommate before noiselessly walking over to Mack's night table. He pulled her ring from his pocket and set it there, watching it reflect the moonlight. Glancing over at her roommate a second time, he walked back to the door and exited just as silently as he had entered, shutting the door. He glanced down the hallway, listening for Mack's return, and then returned to his own room.

She opened the door again as silently as she could, not wanting to wake up Pandora or Ashley. If they woke up, they'd be asking questions and she didn't want that. She closed the door behind her and walked towards her bed. She stopped when a familiar glint caught her eye. A glint she knew very well. Walking to her night table she saw it. 'That's odd... How can...?' she thought and looked around instintivly, hoping to see any diferences on the room that might indicate the presence of someone. Nothing. Whoever did it, was already gone.
She grabbed her jacket and put the ring back on, noticing how cold it was. She walked out of her room, wanting to find out who had done it.

Nathan shut the door after himself and walked over to his bed to lay down, listening to Mack as she returned to her room. He could not hear her thoughts, just her footsteps and any other sounds she made. He glanced over at his night table, where some books remained stacked upon each other, and picked the one off the top. He sighed, loooking at the cover, and sat up. Thankfully he had no roommate, who wouldn't question his lack of a need for sleep, though he could fall asleep if he chose to. Most nights, however, he preferred to stay awake. He sat up and turned to look out at the darkened landscape.

Mack walked out to the grounds, the cold wind moved her hair around her face, making her vision less clear. She stood there for a moment looking around to the buildings and the surrounding areas. She sighed and walked to the lake, wanting to figure things out.

Looking out the window, Nathan spotted a girl walking across the lawn towards the lake. He stood up and walked closer to the glass, seeing through the dark. He recognized her as Mack and glanced around the rest of the grounds for as far as he could see. It looked empty, but he knew it was not safe. He opened the window and climbed up onto the ledge, then hopped down, landing in a crouched position. He stood up and began following her without making any noise, always able to hear her footsteps among the other night sounds, and smell her scent. He stuck to the shadows when he could, his eyes occasionally gleaming through the darkness.

Someone was following her. She could felt their gaze on her back, making her shiver. However, she didn't turn around to see who it was. Instead she kept walking to the lake. Upon reaching it, she took a breath. Why she had come to this place, she had no idea. Dark waters always freaked her out and the lake was pretty dark. But she had been drawn there sinve the very first day for some misterious reason.
She sat down and embraced her knees, in order to protect herself form the cold night air. Resting her chin over her knees, she held her gaze to the lake and let her mind wander.

Upon several tall boulders about a hundred yards away from where Mack was, sat Nathan. He was hidden by the pitch black shadow of an enormous oak tree with branches that extended far past the boulders. He glanced at Mack, wondering what was on her mind, and looked to her hands, noticing that she had put on the ring. She must be suspicious, so he kept his distance for that and other reasons. He looked around, knowing she did not know all the risks of being out here this late at night, especially this far from the school. He was probably the only student that recognized the risk, and that was because he was once a part of it. He kept his eyes out for his fellow vampires, but he found it hard not to watch Mack. He could everything, from the breath she just took, to the beating of her heart, and the lapping of the lake's water against the banks.

Ok, someone was definitely watching her. She felt it and she was starting to get scared. She could only hope it was a student, but with her luck and tendency to attract trouble, it would probably a serial killer or some kind of supernatural creature. What if it was that vampire? Her heart rate picked up as some of the bushes near the water moved. 'Mack you're being stupid. The school must have protection against this kind of things and it was probably just a animal in those bushes' she told herself and tried to stay as calm as she could. As usual to Mack, she had to start singing. This time it was "Can somebody help me" by Full Blown Rose. Ironic much?
Can somebody help me?
I'm being haunted by a whisper A chill comes over me I've been trapped inside this moment I'm not a victim I'm not a freak
Free me, before I slip away Heal me, wake me from this day Can somebody help me?
I've seen the face of my affliction Of my reality I'm being tortured by the future Of things that yet to be I'm being haunted by a vision It's like the morning never comes I feel the burden of confusion Always searching, on the run
Free me, before I slip away Heal me, wake me from this day Can somebody help me? Somebody help me
Now, I'm not a hero, no But the weight of the world on my soul These images burn in my eyes They're burning me up inside
Free me, before I slip away Heal me, wake me from this day Can somebody help me?
Free me, before I slip away Heal me, wake me from this day Can somebody help me? Somebody help me Somebody help me Somebody help me'

For a few minutes, Nathan became entranced, watching Mack and listening to her sing. He knew something had startled her, having heard her heart rate quicken. Now he knew that she was nervous. He suspected that she knew she was being watched, and that she knew whoever it was might not be dangerous, in which case she would be right, as long as he was the only one watching. He relaxed slightly while she sang, listening to closely to the words, and watching her with curious golden eyes. He wondered if she purposely chose that song, and he had a feeling that she did. When she finished, he remained distracted for a minute afterwards, simply gazing at her. Then he realized he was supposed to be keeping an eye out for danger, and just in time, too. Some bushes a couple hundred yards away moved, and he wondered if her singing had attracted more than one listener.

The singing had done it's job and she was felling calmer. Now that her mind wasn't racing with thoughts of an imminent death she was starting to think of a plan to get out, if she was indeed being watched by someone who wanted her dead. Running wasn't gonna do the trick. She stared at the lake and the cave Cam had showed her popped into her mind. She knew she could swim there and that she could held her breath long enough if she had trouble finding it, but the darkness of the water was making her unsure of that plan. Instinctively she reached for her pocket, felling the two glow sticks she kept there. She knew one of them would last 8 hours and that the other would glow brightly but it would only last 30 min. She could use that to get to the cave, but she still had to come up with a way to get into the water. She slowed down her breathing, and her heart started to beat less, her usual routine before entering the water. Still, she stood there, barely moving, her eyes scanning the lake and it's surroundings, taking in every shape and sound as she could.

When Mack stood, Nathan was curious as to why. Had she heard something he hadn't? After all, he had been understandably distracted. It had been several minutes since her singing had ceased, and, listening to her heart, he noticed that the beating had slowed. Watching her, he also saw a difference in her. It now seemed like she was no longer scared, but she was thinking about something. Glancing out over the lake, he wondered if it had something to do with that. Now he really watched her every movement, wondering what exactly she planned on doing, and how the lake was involved. She couldn't be considered swimming, could she? As she searched her surroundings, Nathan remained still, hoping not to be seen.

She couldn't held the decision much longer and she kept considering that she had more chances if she went for the lake. But her vision would be even more reduced than outside, still, she was a good swimmer. But she could drown. 'At least it's a good way to go... better than being hunt down and killed by a blood thirsty vampire. Wait? When you drown doesn't if feel like your lungs are on fire? Funny, because it's water...Ok, Mack, focus.' Hey since when had she grown a conscience? She was bound to do stupid things, right? So, she walked to the water and right into it, removing the high intensity glow stick from her pocket while she did it. She kept walking until the water reached her waist and then she dived. She swam a little, making sure she was deep enough and she broke the glow stick, making it bright. She waved it infront of her and kept swimming foward. She was starting to get a little desperate because she couldn't find the opening of the cave when the light iluminated it. Gratefull, she almost let a sigh of relief excape from her lips. She kicked herself mentaly for doing so before swimming through the opening and went up, reaching the shore of the cave. She climbed up and sat on the floor, taking deep breaths

Mack had just disappeared into the water, when rustling in the bushes caught Nathan's attention. He quickly looked in the direction of the noise, noticing leaves moving in the distance. Fearing it was more vampires, he did not want to stick around for a fight if he could avoid it. He hopped off the tall pile of boulders with ease, landing in a standing position, his knees bent slightly. He straightened up as he strolled over to the water and performed a small dive into deeper water, creating a quiet splash. Using what little moonlight entered the lake, Nathan could see rather well, but not as well as on land. His shaggy hair floated around his pale face in the water as he followed Mack's path, though he could not follow her scent underwater. Lacking the need to breathe, he held his breath and took his time as he saw the light of her glow stick disappear in the distance. He soon came to the cave, seeing her entrance, but passed it in search of another one.

Now that she had regained her breath, Mack took of her wet jacket. Since the cave was big enough for her to stand and walk freely, she got up and walked around, making sure the things she and Cam had brought were still there. The beer was still there, although it wouldn't be that big of a help. Unless of course she wanted to drive herself to a drunken stupor. She also knew that there was a flashlight somewhere and a more meticulous search revealed it. A quick test showed that the flashlight was working and she still had the glow stick. She sighed and checked her watch. It wasn't midnight yet so she had some hours to kill before dawn. Not that she wanted to spend her time in a frigging cave surrounded by water. 'What was the worst thing that could happen? Running out of air?' Ok, she was not the most optimistic person in the world but she had to be realistic. 'And of course that the morning won't make me safer... Maybe a little, since there are more humans around'. "You know what they say Mack, the freaks come out at night" she said "Great, now I'm talking to myself". She sighed again and grabbed the flashlight, wanting to explore some more of that cave.

After a few minutes, Nathan came to another opening. A very dim, barely noticeable, but very broad ray of light shone from it and faded away into the depths of the lake. He swam underneath and surfaced, his head bobbing in a very small, circular pool surrounded by beds of rock. He glanced about before placing his hands on either side of him, and raising himself out of the cold lake, only to be greeted by the night air and a slight breeze, making him even colder. Well, it didn't really faze him, since he was already rather cold, but to anyone who touched him, he was sure he would seem frigid. Hid jeans and long sleeve shirt were dripping wet and weighed down by water, but he didn't care.
Nathan continued looking about, taking everything in. He could smell Mack's scent again, but he wondered whether it was stuck in his nose, or if she were nearby. He did not hear any sounds that might belong to her, only the dripping of water off stalactites, and a very slight breeze, which meant there was an opening somewhere above the lake that allowed air to pass through. He began to walk into the connecting chamber, sticking closer to the walls, and dodging stalagmites and any other obstacles he came across. He listened closely for Mack's footsteps or heart beat, hoping to keep an eye on her without her seeing him. He did not want their first meeting to be in some dark cavern, especially when he was technically following her.
