"Well, in that case, you are highly observant” she acknowledged trying to keep a lighthearted tone to her voice, only making it crack at the end from the struggle with the tears. What a great moment for her sadness to decide to kick in and slap her in the face... Not to mention the major breakdown she was in the verge of had decided to come and help her friend sadness... bah, Lady Luck was not her friend. In fact, she was starting to consider that Lady Luck had a vendetta towards her.

"I try..." Nathan replied, still watching her closely. "Let's go somewhere private." Without waiting for an answer, he reached around her to put his hand on her back, gently but firmly guiding her to a dusty old section of shelves towards the back of the library.

"Hey, hey, hey" Mack exclaimed with shock “What are you doing?” she asked him while he led her through the aisles. 'Little Kenzie, what have you gotten yourslef into?' she asked herself using the nick Brennan gave her 'Oh God, I'm starting to think like Brennan'

Nathan now let go of her and faced her, standing in the middle of a random aisle. "You don't want me to see you cry, so I assumed you wouldn't want anyone else to see either."

"It doesn't matter really. I'm not gonna cry" she said a little to fast

Nathan just looked at her, "Can I at least know what's making you so upset?"

Mack started to play with her hair. How could she explain such a thing? "The fact that I simply know to much to just be a civilian and the fact that I don't exactly wan't to kill every single thing that has been marked by evil" she said "And expecially the fact that not being made out of ice anymore sucks big time"

"Like what?" Nathan asked, looking at her. "And why aren't you made out of ice anymore?"

"Oh I don't know" Mack said waving a hand "There are thousands of creatures that don't like being monsters... But still there are hunters determined to kill them no matter what" she explained and then held back a laugh at his question "Because of stupid Brennan" she told him as if it was the more obvious thing in the whole world

"No one can help what they are, but almost all of those creatures hurt people. That's why all of them are hunted." Nathan replied. "Who is Brennan?"

"Almost all" She said "But no one seems to be in the mood to verify that" Her smilem broaden "My brother. No, not really. We don't share the same blood, parents or anything biologicaly speaking."

Nathan nodded, "Is he a hunter?"

"Nope." She said shaking her head "And hopefully, he'll continue that way"

Nathan looked at her, thinking she could never find out what he really was. She wanted to be normal, and he would only make that more difficult. "If you don't want to be a hunter, you really shouldn't be here. It's not a profession you can be forced into, contrary to what your parents or anyone else might think."

Mack chuckled “If I didn’t want to be a hunter, it would be almost as if I said I don’t want to be human anymore. It’s a part of me, it makes me who I am. I can’t deny that. I couldn’t live like that, knowing that a particular death was caused by the supernatural and knowing that it was within my power to prevent that from happening.” She paused for a second, trying to find a decent way to explain it “I don’t want my friends to be involved. If I knew that if I stopped doing what I do would help them survive, I would do it. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. They will not be embraced by a shield just because I gave up…” she stopped, feeling the sting of tears again
Regaining some composure, but still struggling with words she proceeded “And if it is the fact that I don’t want to judge an individual for the deeds of its kind that makes you think that I’m not as good as other hunters, I could really care less. I can’t think like that, knowing that there still might be some humanity inside a creature, knowing that perhaps the monster did not win. Many creatures were once human. I cant just dismiss that and believe that not a single bit of that humanity stayed with them. I’m sorry if that disappoints you, but I can’t”
