Kaitlyn nodded. Tears rolled down her cheeks.
"I know. It should`ve been me..."

"Why?" Nathan asked softly, moving towards her, though he didn't know what he was going to do.

"He didn`t deserve it... I did," she whispered, more to herself than to Nathan.

Nathan stopped, standing right in front of her, and looking her in the eye. "Why should it have been you? What did you ever do to him? You did the right thing."

She shook her head.
"I killed somebody." Her voice cracked and she looked down as she started crying.

"You did the only thing you could." Nathan watched her and quickly found himself wrapping his arms around her in a hug. He had always had a lot of empathy and he didn't know what else to do. He expected this girl, whose name he didn't even know, to pull away or push him back.

Kaitlyn jumped at his touch but she hugged him back. She took a few minutes to stop crying and then looked up at him.
"I`m sorry... you don`t even know me and I`m making you deal with this." She looked down guiltily and saw the blood seeping through her sleeve.

"You aren't making me do anything." Nathan assured her as their eyes met, then he leaned back to follow her glance down to her sleeve. He didn't need to see the blood to know it was there, he could smell it. He looked at her long sleeve and sweater as a whole, now kind of glad that she was wearing it. He hoped it prevented her from feeling the coldness of his touch, which was something he could not help. The sun possibly might have warmed it a little, but even then it would still be cool.

Kaitlyn smiled.
"So what were you doing out here all alone? Most guys come out here with their girlfriends."

"Do they?" Nathan stepped back a little more, glancing around. "I suppose it would be romantic..." He looked back to her. "I came out here to think."

Kaitlyn nodded.
"Me too. It seems like this is the only quiet place in the school. Its sad really. I guess most hunters aren`t very romantic."

Nathan smiled at her, "The library's rather quiet. Apparently they aren't very studious either."

Kaitlyn smiled.
"Guess not. They`re too busy worrying about learning to fighting and shooting. Not that that`ll get them very far if they know nothing about what they`re hunting."

"Someone should tell them that." Nathan agreed with a smile. He looked around again, then turned towards a large rock nearby, glancing back at her. "Do you want to sit?" He looked at her for a moment, then headed over to take a seat himself.

Kaitlyn followed and sat down next to him.
"I`m Kaitlyn," she said, suddenly remembering that she hadn`t introduced herself to him; nor did she know his name.
